How Bad is Falling Asleep Without Brushing Your Teeth?
It’s not only kids who would rather hit the pillow without brushing their teeth on occasion. We have all been guilty of this at one time or another…most often when coming home late at night. That said, it is important to be aware of what’s going on in your
mouth when you don’t brush before you go to sleep.
The truth of the matter is this: going to bed without brushing your teeth is frankly disgusting.
Whenever you eat a meal, the bacteria that is naturally occurring in your mouth feasts on the food that you eat. Then, just like any other type of organism, these bacteria excrete waste.
Did that statement just make you want to run to brush your teeth? Hopefully that is the only incentive that you need! But wait…there’s more!
The waste is highly acidic and then breaks down your tooth enamel which causes cavities and root decay.
Also, plaque hardens and calcifies on your teeth. When plaque calcifies, it can then only be removed by a dental hygienist and a professional tooth cleaning.
Gums can also see plaque buildup as an infection, so your immune system kicks into full gear to fight it off. Your body then starts to attack the healthy tissues that hold your teeth in place. This can lead to the gums pulling away from the teeth.
So as you can see, you really need to take this seriously – it really is no laughing matter!
Brushing your teeth at night should be a habit just like changing into your pajamas. It only takes 2 minutes after all! Oh, and remember to floss too!<< Previous post Next post >>
