Sedation Dentist in Surrey
What is Sedation Dentistry (Sleep Dentistry)?
Dental sedation involves administering a sedative to dull a patient’s ability to sense pain and discomfort. Dr. Chohan is a sedation dentist and can administer oral sedation.
Who Can Benefit from Sedation Dentistry?
Kids and adults can undergo sedation of varying levels. Commonly, sedation is recommended for patients who:
- Experience dental phobia, stress, or anxiety
- Have a sensitive gag reflex
- Do not feel physically comfortable in a dental chair
- Cannot comfortably hold their mouth open for treatment
- Are too young to sit still during a long procedure
- Are handicapped or have a cognitive disorder
- Are undergoing many consecutive hours of dental treatment
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Dr. Chohan will prescribe a sedative in pill form. Have your prescription filled before the day of your dental appointment. Take the pill as instructed. Under the effects of sedation, you cannot safely drive a vehicle, so arrange to have a friend or family member drive you to and from your appointment. At our office, you’ll be escorted to the treatment room, where you will be made comfortable. Dr. Chohan will perform your procedure(s) while her dental assistant manages your comfort.
What to Expect Following Treatment
Following treatment, you will need to be driven home by a friend of family member. Plan to remain home, resting, for the remainder of the day. Dr. Chohan will provide you and your driver with aftercare instructions appropriate for your procedure. Should you or your caregiver have any questions once you return home, please feel free to call our office.
